A hotel on a tourist-orientated island is only in use during a limited time. Outside the tourist season an empty shell remains. That every building has a limited functional period is not necessarily a problem, but mass-tourism is making great claims upon the scarce space on the island. The influence of the inactive mono-functionalities on the qualities of the island are immense. In the end mass tourism will erase the qualities of every environment, and without these qualities tourism will decay.
This project is a research into this duality, and aims at a solution which is satisfying for both realities.
